The Kraken

This is Katherine’s favorite painting that she completed during the Covid lockdown in April of 2020 and was completed in under a month.

Growing up in the Ocean State, Katherine has always had a love for the sea and the wildlife that lives within the waves. Surprisingly even though it was the most time consuming her favorite part of creating this acrylic painting was all the sea life details that are all over the deck of the ship.

The mediums used in this painting are acrylic paint, a 0.1 Micron inking pen, and BLACK 3.0 - the blackest black paint in the world by Culture Hustle. Prints of this painting are for sale in our Etsy shop.

Ribbon Green

This is one drawing that Katherine chose to use several different mediums such as: inking pens, several different graphite pencils, watercolor, and paint pens. This drawing was created in 2018.

The whole point of this work is to make it look like the giraffe was woven together with ribbons. The green spots on the giraffe are watercolor and the shading of the ribbon was pencils to make it appear to be three dimensional.

Hoya Hindu Rope

Created in the summer of 2021. This is a drawing of one of Katherine’s Hoya plants. In this drawing she used three mediums which were pencil, Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pens, and a 003-0.15mm Micron inking pen for some of the stippling in a few of the leaves.

Fruit From the Tree

Created in 2019 this fruit bowl is a set of two almost identical paintings which are both painted on canvases. No one would notice a difference in the two paintings. The mediums used in this painting are gouache, a 003-0.15mm, and 01-0.25mm Micron inking pen, and BLACK 3.0 - the blackest black paint in the world by Culture Hustle. This paint absorbs 99% of light.

Moo no More

Created in 2020 this is a still life drawing of a cow skull and a plastic flower with a light source coming from the left. In this sketch Katherine only used one medium which was graphite.

Spring Columbine

Created in 2021 Spring Columbine is an acrylic painting that is based off of the shot Katherine took in the garden during the spring of 2022. In the background she used BLK 3.0 (The blackest black paint in the world by Culture Hustle) This original painting is for sale in our Etsy store along with prints.

Silent Noise

Created right before lockdown in 2020. In this still life drawing Katherine used black charcoal along with some white charcoal as her mediums. She also chose to make this sketch smooth rather than a more textured look by smoothing the charcoal over with her hands and rags.

Gargoyle

Created in 2017 this is a Gargoyle Kathrine crated when she was in high school. The drawing was created by using a grid and was created with watercolor oil pastels.

Oil pastels and charcoal are some of Katherine’s favorite mediums pretty much anything that creates a mess she loves to use.

Book Cover

Created in the summer of 2021 this illustration was a commission Katherine completed for a new author who writes historical fiction books. The client wanted to have the British army white on white to look like ghosts. The army in the upper right is the German military and in the front in the trenches we can see the United States military. When she was producing this illustration, she had to keep in mind that the client wanted to have the illustration look like colored pencils. However, Prismacolor Premier colored pencils were not the only medium in this illustration. She also used Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pens, 90% rubbing alcohol, multiple sizes of Micron inking pens, and alcohol-based Prismacolor Premier Dual-Ended Art Markers.

Trinkets From Around the World

Trinkets From Around the World is a new art gallery that Dramatic Dragon Designs will continue to add to. The concept is to make works of art of little trinkets the artist receives from friends and family from their trips to other countries.

Lucky Turtle

This drawing was completed in 2022. Lucky Turtle is a small glass trinket from India that was gifted to Katherine in 2021. The little glass turtle is small enough to place in the palm of your hand and is said to bring good luck. The object is a clear glass so it was hard to draw because she had to focus on how the light was reflecting on the glass. The mediums used in this drawing was watercolor pencils.

Infinite Cycle

Completed in 2022, Infinite Cycle was gifted to Katherine at the same time as the glass turtle which is also from India. The object is about the size of a gallon of milk but not as heavy. The wheels are made of rubber and the seat and handles are made of wood. As for all the other components they are made of medal and are hand welded together and then was painted black. The wheels do spin and if you spin the peddles the gears do turn.

This charcoal drawing was done on a brown paper bag from Stop and Shop which is why there is a line going through half the page. This goes to show you can make art with anything and with just a little bit of patience.

Seeing is Believing

This pencil sketch was created in 2022 and was gifted to Katherine in 2019 right before the shutdown. The trinket was given to her by a coworker who was visiting family in Italy for the holidays. The trinket is white made of plastic and can fit in the palm of your hand comfortably with extra room.

Digital Art

Beanie the Narwhal

Beanie the Narwhal was created on an iPhone using an app called Paper by WeTransfer and another app called Pixelmator. The idea came to Katherine while she was crocheting her 2022 temperature blanket and was watching a documentary on sea life in the Arctic. This had her thinking it would be pretty cool if there was a cute little attachment she could add to her crochet hook that would be a grip and it would be cool if it was shaped like a narwhal so the hook could be the horn of the creature. The idea later turned into this digital art called Beanie the Narwhal.

Crafty Archie

This is a graphic design created on Pixelmator Pro. This work was inspired from by an attempt of getting a pet hedgehog when the artist was a kid. We are not going to tell you the story. However, you can ask the artist yourself and she will tell you.

To get Archie’s story send us a message at the bottom of our website saying “Where is Archie?”

The Hidden Gems of Maine

This is a graphic design by Katherine Niedzwiadek and was created by using Pixelmator Pro. In this design there are a lot of little gems that represent spending some of the her childhood in Maine with her family. There is a Lily of the Valley to the right which is connected to her memory of picking bouquets of them. Hidden to the left of the design there are three Lady Slipper Orchids which are native to Maine and there were tones of them growing along the property. This product is now available on Redbubble

This ॐ (ohm) design is a part of the graphic design that Katherine use for this website. You can find this design around the neck of the Dramatic Dragon on our home page.

This ॐ necklace is also warn by Katherine in the photo in on the about page. The necklace is is hand painted and made in India and has a small crack in the glass but that’s okay because even though it has been through a lot the pendent is still beautiful.

Christmas Tree Rorschach Test

This design was used in a production of The Santaland Diaries. Which the artist was the Scenic Designer for as well. This Christmas Rorschach test was projected from behind and in the frame that had hung over the fireplace on the set. The design was displayed during the show specifically when the actor was referring to his Rorschach test.
